What is Malaga like?
Malaga is a wonderful city that satisfies everyone that visits it. Malaga offers wonderful beaches, excellent shopping and many sights to enjoy. As one of Spain's largest cities, Malaga is used as a jumping off point for exploring the Costa Del Sol. Considered a resort city for the rich and famous, you will be mesmerized by Malaga's wealth of beauty. What is the weather like? Malaga is blessed with a perfect Mediterranean climate that offers mild temperatures year around. The best time to visit Malaga is between May and October when you will be treated to dry and warm days and mild evenings.
What is there to do? There is lots to do in Malaga. First, if you want to go to the beach, there is an excellent beach (Playa de la Malagueta) within walking distance of the ship. Simply exit the port turning right and walk along the edge of the port and then past the high rise buildings and you will run smack into a wonderful beach begging for you to enjoy the sunshine and ocean. The beach offers several small restaurants serving beverages and snacks. We enjoyed some of the local beer with a plate of home made olives that was simply wonderful. Towering over Malaga is the Gibralfaro Castle, which is well worth the hike to get to it. There is a small museum that resides within its walls and the views are spectacular from the castle's height. Also, don't miss the Alcazaba close to Malaga's city center. This ancient (over 1,000 years old) palace is now an archeological museum and botanical garden. From the Gibralfaro Castle just walk down the ridge towards the city of Malaga to get to the Alcazaba. |
